Nannup
Which in the local Aboriginal dialect actually means “ A place to rest “, which is what they did when passing through this way before moving on again.
This is where the Jarrah and Marri with the tall Karri trees grow all around, and the Blackwood River winds its way through the region and on to the Southern Ocean at Augusta.
Placed smack bang in the middle of the Southwest of Western Australia, with towns like Margaret River, Bridgetown, Balingup, Busselton , Pemberton, Manjimup and Augusta all within an easy one hour drive. An ideal place to Stop and Rest for a while.
Still with a working Timber Mill ( Nannup Timber Processing) employing around 60 people. Although still largely a timber town, the focus has shifted slightly since its heyday in the 1930’s from solely timber and agriculture .
There is now a strong viticulture industry including a fine boutique winery and Bistro at Blackwood Wines. Tourism now an important component with a variety of wonderful holiday accommodation places ~ like Blackwoodbanks Chalets and Jarrahglen Chalets ,offering a fantastic farm and riverside holiday stays at Jalbarragup ~ a 20 minute drive from the township.
These people are my very good friends, and work hard to ensure that their customers have the very best of their holiday experience in our area.
Although a very small Shire , with a population of around 600 in the township and the same in the outlying area ~ Nannup offers a diverse ever changing and stimulating environment in which to live and work.
