This Marri table is made from a single slab of Marri timber.
Measuring a healthy 2.650L x 1.150w x .770h x 50mm thick.
These Marri Slabs are quite hard to source now and are in high demand when found.
A natural edge Marri Slab table of this quality would likely fetch upwards of $13,000 elsewhere.
The base is made up from beautifully figured curly Marri slabs place at a 12% deflection with centre beam that is housed through the ends and held in place by wedges tapped through the beam as it protruded through the end pieces. This is known as a Bowtie feature, and allows the table to be dismantled or moved if required.
Added to this is the feature of hand forged iron braces at each inside end of the beam ~ giving even more support to the rather weighty table.
Not seen in these pics is the detail of the iron which is in fact formed to the shape of a leaf on a small branch. These are made for me at the forge of
